I used Stranded Dyeworks BFL Nylon Fingering in the colour Industrial Kingfisher for Killieleepie, but they've unfortunately closed down. So I thought today would be a good time to look at yarn substitutions! I put all the yarn details in the Materials section of my pattern and on my pattern pages so you have all the info you need to find your perfect swap.

First we want to look at the compostion of the yarn. BFL Nylon Fingering is 80% Superwash Bluefaced Leicester, 20% Nylon with 360 m (400 yds) in 100g. In this case we have wool, with a bit of nylon. You can swap for a different (sheep) wool and keep the nylon or go 100% wool without having much effect on the socks. It's on the thick side of 4 ply yarn. For a comparable swap its important to stay close to 360 m per 100g and make sure you can still get gauge with your yarn. It's easier to go a little thinner (up to maybe 400m per 100g) than it is to go thicker.

I've got a few suggestions for you from some of my favourite dyers! For a direct swap with the same composition, @edencottageyarns Brimham High Twist, @thirdvaultyarns Vortex Sock and @giddyyarns BFL Nylon 4ply all have stunning colourways to choose from! And @lottieknits Little Bird Sock is a great substituion with Merino instead of Bluefaced Leicester!

It's release day! Meet Killieleepie. They're a toe

It's release day! Meet Killieleepie. They're a toe up sock with a heel flap and gusset and they have four width sizes with flexible length fitting in the foot and the leg so you can get the perfect fit for everyone!

The name means Kingfisher in Scots and the socks feature a rippling river up one side of the sock, knit with slipped stitch cables! The pattern is simple enough to remember while being a fun knit that will keep you saying, "just one more round!"

The pattern is fully written with charts for the cables and a photo tutorial is included for cables without a cable needle so you can get the smoothest knitting experience!
