I have had this idea for ages, for a striped cowl with a colourwork pattern at the join between the stripes. So long in fact that I picked up this yarn as a “spare” advent calendar at the end of the year. The yarn came as a gradient from white, through pink, to purple, to blue, to grey and finally black.
I obviously couldn’t use them as a gradient because then my colourwork patterns wouldn’t show, so I changed the order of the yarns to make a repeating stripe pattern. There are so many options for this cowl. You could use just two colours, or any number up to 24 (or the maximum number of stripes for the size you’re making). It also looks fantastic with a main colour and several contrast colours, like Jennifer’s Ringle below.
Ringle has 6 patterns that you repeat for the different sizes of cowl. If you really want to change things up you could just knit one or two of the colourwork patterns, or work a different number of stripes for an inbetween length of colour. The possibilities with Ringle are endless!
