I had a lot of fun with this design. The name of the yarn colour was what sent me off down this fun rabbit hole. I grew up near Aberdeen – the Granite City as a kid, and lived and worked there as an adult so as you can imagine it’s very close to my heart!
At the bottom of the post you’ll see Marischal College. It’s the second largest grainite building in the world and it’s beautiful! It used to be so dirty that it was almost black, but they cleaned it in 2011 and it was amazing to see the light silver of the stone appear from a century of soot and grime!
I took inspiration from the lacey pinacles for the central column of the sock, flanked by columns of twisted rib like the pillars running up the outside of the building.
